Whidbey Compost Collective is a worker-owned nonprofit established in 2022, committed to capturing compostable material for the community good.

Our mission is to keep food scraps out of the landfill by turning them into nutrient-rich compost for local use. Through a decentralized network of collection and processing sites, we are able to deliver long-term environmental and economic benefits.

Our values prioritize protecting the environment and supporting social equity. Our organization operates transparently and is committed to intentionally stepping away from extractive systems by exploring and adopting new ways to empower marginalized species and humans. We are committed to repurposing as many materials for reuse in our infrastructure as possible.

Items We Accept:

We can take all food scraps including all fruits, veggies, meat, cheese, small bones and small quantities of food soiled paper as long as it isn't waxed.

Items To Avoid:

We cannot take "compostable" products such as plastic-like utensils/containers, no pet waste or large bones and we'd like to avoid really moldy or rotten food and excess grease.

Be alert to produce stickers, rubber bands, bits of plastic, and anything else that we don’t want going back into the soil.
