rePurpose Whidbey has successfully hosted multiple zero waste events throughout the community to reduce the material headed for the landfill. We’ve worked with organizers of multi-week events to hour long events.

Some of the organizations we’ve worked with are Whidbey Island Dance Theater, Island Shakespeare Festival, Goosefoot, and South Whidbey Pride.

Ideally, we work closely with the event organizers as they are planning the food and drink options and vendors for the event. Then we suggest options that can help reduce waste such as:

• Replacing single use food and drink containers with reusable dishware, cups and utensils

• Eliminating the trash cans and instead installing zero waste stations to collect food scraps, washable dishware, and sorting bins for recycling. 

• Engaging volunteers in the process.
