Our heroes for driving policy change in Washington for a healthy and waste-free world, we often look to Zero Waste Washington as our mentor organization. They have a lot of great opportunities for lobbying at the state level, local get-togethers in Seattle and they are always up to something innovative and inspiring in the circular economy. Get involved locally with our very own Island County Solid Waste Advisory Committee. SWAC represents Island County's cities and towns, haulers, agriculturalists, recyclers and citizens. Members of the SWAC advise Island County on all aspects of solid waste management planning, assist Island County in the development of solid waste management programs and policies and review and comment on proposed solid waste management rules, policies or ordinances prior to their adoption. WSU Waste Wise of Camano and Whidbey Islands is an education outreach program supported by staff and volunteers who reach into the community to share what they learn in training with others. They bring ways to reduce/reuse and compost/recycle to you. And talk about composting and vermiculture and help you learn how to safely dispose of household hazardous wastes.
